Early spring is a blast; the lakers are full of vim and vigor and many can be taken from the surface. Fish the shallow water reefs, sunken rocky islands and the underwater points of Trout Lake. Cast or troll using medium or deep diving crank baits in various sizes and colours, or use 2 - 4 inch spoons in silver or a silver combo. You can catch lots of lakers running 4 to 10 lbs. with trophies in the 18 to 50 lb. size.

Summer time; warm breezes and the trout go deeper. Troll using a 3 way swivel with a 10 oz. weight and a flashy silver spoon. Or vertical jig with a big 2 oz. jig in white, orange or yellow. Fish the deep water humps with rocky bottoms and the boulder strewn flats. Summer trout will also be in the deep holes either between islands or in the main body of Trout Lake. Try fishing slots where the big trout lie along the steep sides. If you've got a small portable downrigger, bring it along and use a Sutton spoon, Doctor spoon or a Red Eye to entice the trout. You'll swear you were troutin' the territories minus the bugs.
In the fall, as the weather cools, the trout are ready for a fight. They're leaving their deep summer spots and heading for the shallows. They'll be back at the shallow water reefs, sunken rocky islands and the underwater points of Trout Lake. Use your spring lures on them, try medium or deep diving crank baits and various spoons such as a 5 of Diamonds. Try casting or trolling small to medium spinners. These fall lakers will hit your lure with great gusto. They're ready for a showdown and you'll wind up the winner. Catch all the 6 to 8 pounders you can shake a rod at. The biggest one so far was a startling 54 pounds.
